Privacy Act Modernization for the Information Age Act of 2011 (S.1732)
Aims to amend the Privacy Act of 1974 and other privacy related laws to modernize them for the information age.
Personal Data Protection and Breach Accountability Act of 2011 (S.1535)
Its purpose is to protect consumers in several ways, including by mitigating the vulnerability of personally identifiable information to theft through a security breach.
Data Security Act of 2011 (S.1434)
Intended to help protect consumers and businesses from identity theft and account fraud.
Data Breach Notification Act of 2011 (S.1408)
Seeks to require federal agencies and persons engaged in interstate commerce in possession of data containing sensitive personally identifiable information, to disclose any breach of such information.
SAFE Data Act (H.R.2577)
Its purpose is to protect consumers by requiring reasonable security policies and procedures to protect data containing personal information, and to provide for nationwide notice in the event of a security breach.
Do Not Track Kids Act of 2011
Seeks to update the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). Currently, COPPA covers children age 12 and younger, and it requires operators of commercial websites and online services directed to children 12 and younger to abide by various privacy safeguards as they collect, use, or disclose personal information about kids. The Do Not Track Kids Act of 2011 aims to strengthen privacy protections for children and teens.
Personal Data Privacy and Security Act of 2011 (S.1151)
Has the aim of preventing and mitigating identity theft, ensuring privacy, providing notice of security breaches, and enhancing criminal penalties, law enforcement assistance, and other protections against security breaches, fraudulent access, and misuse of personally identifiable information.
Data Security and Breach Notification Act of 2011 (S.1207)
Purpose is to protect consumers by requiring reasonable security policies and procedures to protect data containing personal information, and to provide for nationwide notice in the event of a security breach.
Location Privacy Protection Act of 2011 (S.1223)
Aims to close current loopholes in federal law to ensure that mobile device customers know what location information is being collected about them and allow them to decide if they want to share it.
Do-Not-Track Online Act of 2011 (S.913)
Its purpose is to require the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to prescribe regulations for the collection and use of personal information obtained by tracking the online activity of an individual.
Data Accountability and Trust Act (H.R.1707)
Its purpose is to protect consumers by requiring reasonable security policies and procedures to protect data containing personal information, and to provide for nationwide notice in the event of a security breach
Commercial Privacy Bill of Rights Act of 2011 (S.799)
Aims to establish a regulatory framework for the comprehensive protection of personal data for individuals under the aegis of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). On the following day Consumer Privacy Protection Act of 2011 (H.R.1528) was introducted with the goal of protecting and enhancing consumer privacy.
Do Not Track Me On-line Act (H.R.654)
This bill would require the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to establish regulations on the collection and use of information obtained by tracking the Internet activity of an individual. The stated goal is to give consumers the ability to prevent the collection and use of data on their online activities.This is closely linked to the BEST PRACTICES Act (H.R.611)
Introduced the previous day - its full title is the Building Effective Strategies To Promote Responsibility Accountability Choice Transparency Innovation Consumer Expectations and Safeguards Act (H.R.611).
